Cupping

Did you just Google
Cupping therapy near me”?

Cupping is an ancient therapy in which the practitioner creates a suction effect by inserting a flame into a glass cup and then affixing the cup to your body. Sounds hot…and strange, we know, but rest assured the cups are not hot.

Cupping therapy uses a suction or vacuum like effect on specific areas of your body to help remove obstructions in the natural energy pathways and therefore treat various ailments within. It has been found to help treat certain pain associated with deep scar tissue and connective tissue in the muscles, as well as muscle knots, inflammation and swelling.

This form of cupping is known as dry cupping, and it’s the method we prefer. The alternative method is called wet cupping, and that’s a story for another day.

So what is cupping?

Cupping — $40
30 minutes of treatment.

We do not charge extra for cupping when it is done within an acupuncture treatment - within an acupuncture treatment, it is just one of the tools we have at our disposal.

Who is cupping therapy for?

Cupping therapy is perfect for those who are looking to relieve pain, improve their flow of energy, ease tense muscles, encourage detoxification of the body, or encourage deep relaxation!

And if you’re looking to avoid needles, cupping therapy will provide some of the same benefits as a standard acupuncture session.

It can also be used to treat a variety of health conditions ranging from the common cold to musculoskeletal pain.

However, if you are prone to bleeding easily or you’re pregnant, then cupping may not be recommended or advised as the best form of treatment for you.

Are there any side effects
to cupping?

It is common for cupping to leave temporary marks on the skin. Much like a bruise, cupping marks are caused by broken blood vessels just beneath the skin. The marks can indicate the level of blood and Qi stagnation, toxin accumulation, or dampness accumulation in your body. The color and pattern of the marks, for instance, show the level of stagnation in that area. The darker the color, the greater the stagnation.

Lighter marks will fade within a few hours, whereas darker marks may take up to 2 weeks to completely disappear.
